Lets not get into politics Johnny, I hear enough of it on TV as is from all sides and it makes me sick to my stomach at times. Yet when it comes too a few officers you're right. Some can be pretty stupid at times. Most though are pretty good.

For example my commander in Iraq was Maj Stekler, can't remember how to spell his name. Everyone one in my company, including me, respected him and would follow his orders with almost no question. He bent over backwards to help us and we him. I think we would have died for him and he would have died for us.

So yeah some officers are bad, most are alright and the rest a soldier would take on the world for. But thats just my thought.

As for you Kommy there is nothing sad about going a few generation's back. I'm honored to hear you had family that fought in WWII.

I have to agree with Aaron on the political standpoint Johnny. Don't get me wrong, everyone is entitled to there own standpoint and opinion on the matter. I'm just sick and tired of hearing it from everyone from my parents to the media.

On another note, your Maj. Stekler reminds me an awful lot of Lieutenant Dickerson from my A-School. Complete respect in both directions, and always willing to make a sacrafice for those who needed help and were willing to do what needed to be done. On the other hand, J.G Hinton was a complete A double S to everyone, no matter what. So yeah, there's always the good and the bad.

heh sorry, didn't mean to venture into political territory, I was actually being more general, as in I have a problem with the entire idea of a Presidency. One person (any one person) having that much power over a whole nation, especially when it includes the military force, just sounds ridiculously stupid to me... but I suppose no one's yet come up with a better idea (unless there's a "None of the above" option in the voting booths that I've never seen before), so I guess I'll just have to put up with it.

Beyond my belief that all political parties should be outlawed from government, I don't venture much into political debates. I'll just leave it at that.

On a side note, I still wish I could have gotten to know both of my grandfathers better before they passed away. Beyond the one's stories about Brazil, which happened after the war, neither of them spoke of their experiences in WWII, including to my parents. I suppose they must have felt best to leave it behind, but I still feel a great loss at not hearing their stories.

Your all rialed over nothing. I didn't take Johnny's words as a dive into politics.

As for myself, many of you already know from previous threads that I am with the military, still. I'm currently in the National Guard, was mobilized and deployed 06-07 and am now back in the reserve, this October will be the mark of my 5th year in the service.

Kommy, I also had the notion of joining OCS. For I told myself, I was to stay in the military, I would become a Chaplain. Infact, they have a need of officers I'm told, or at least in my state. Too many transferring or redeploying that they don't have too many left in reserve to help train and prepare troops. So, if the thought has ever resurfaced Kommy, there may be an additional sign on bonus to join the ranks of officers.

Well as most of you know I am an active duty enlisted marine but what you might not know is that I am the third generation in my family to do so. My grandfather served as an infantry man in WW2 surviving some of the bloodiest battles of the war. My father was an electrical technician in Vietnam helping build outposts and bases while dodging mortar fire. and finally me, a radio man attached to an infantry company which has lead to getting shot at almost blown up and general chaos...

I know what being blown up is like. An IED hit the vechical I was in. Went right through the drivers side window. Thankfully my track commander, gunner and myself only walked away with minor injuries. I got the worst out of it. A hairline fracture on my right hand. Trust me its no fun getting blown up. Eeesh!!

I've never been blown up before. But I did have the shit shot out of my boat once on a drug bust mission. Man, was that scary. I'm just glad my gunner reacted when he did and how he did. We managed to complete with no casualties or injuries.

Just to jump in, IRL I did 4.5 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force (I know it's not technically called that nowadays, but I like how it sounds). I was posted to NDHQ for pretty much my entire term so I didn't see much outside of the office, sadly.

Well, we do hope to hear from you from time to time when you get the chance to talk. There were a few I'm sure would have taken your hand to the ball.

No offense to you sexymanz but maybe you should keep such stories to another topic. Accidental firework injury stories while entertaining and for the most part quite funny seem out of place when used in the same context as a massive daisey chained ied that ripped the front end off my truck killed two friends and had me climbing out of the turret peeling my gloves of to keep them from melting to my skin.

I know you meant no offense and honestly there was none taken but maybe you should leave this post on topic.

Eh no harm done sexymanz just be careful next time. As for you Bestile I'm sorry about your friends. Lost a fellow soldier over there too. It always hard losing a friend to war. I'm glad you made it out alright.
