How do you think the BOM poll will go this month? Any ideas or opinions?

I tend to refrain from projections, as it may impact voting on the West Coast. Er, I mean, towards the end of the month.

Looks like two ladies have a shot, with two more trailing. Ronald would know better than I do who really has a shot; he probably has records of who tends to vote when, and how likely an overtake is.

I will at least say that I voted for the Kat this month.

Yeah-- there are a couple of members who tends to vote at the end of the month and watching over the messageboard for clues on how to tip the polls....

Speaking of the poll- what really surprised me this morning after logging in and checking the polls is the Interactive Content poll. I guess most of those people who voted for comics are now steering towards "Something New"...

And a reversal on the Battle Fighting Game vs Battle Cad Game... I almost thought the Battle Card Game was going to take the cake this time...

We should have a discussion on the "Something New" bit.... I threw out RPG out there just because it would be nice to have one... I used to play this game called "Super Heroes of Hoboken" by Legend Entertainment. I thought it was a fun RPG...

Never played SHoH myself. I suspect when you suggested RPGs, people typically thought of some of the current fare off of Newgrounds. Just my guess.

I'm a bit leery of all the gear-shifting. There was talk of a card game when the site first opened. Now it's tabled. Then the fighting game. Nothing about that since October. Now it's an RPG. It's hard for me to get excited about it.

On the other hand, an RPG would be fairly simple to do in Flash; it wouldn't require any programming tricks we haven't already seen in the casino. (Maybe a couple at most.) It would, however, be very writing intensive. Feeling up to it?

Here's a lead if you like. The player is a villain, trying to lure one of the Babes into some fiendish trap. His job is to acquire the gear and people to make this happen. This requires money, which requires petty crimes. People include your garden variety henchman, crack ninja team, or mad scientist; opportunity may also strike in the form of villainesses you can recruit, such as Voodoo Child and Heavy Water, provided you can trust them not to turn on you. They likely won't stoop to petty crime to fund your activities - that's what goons are for - but they may ally at times to provide some decisive abilities. Meanwhile, you have to be careful to keep your goons from being caught by the JusticeBabes.

You guys are saying the same thing I was. An RPG in the vein of Ganguro Girl would be awesome. As I said in a post a few threads ago, we could play the villain's role and try to seduce or capture our heroines. Hollow's suggestion of buying equipment or powers is great. These ideas would work cooperatively. Cool music and flash animation with, perhaps, the ability to save a game, would make a very rich RPG experience.

Oops! I started this by asking what you thought of the poll and I just noticced I haven't voted yet. Aargh!

Well, I voted for the Battle Card Game before actually reading all the choices. While I'd love to see an RPG style game, I'd also like to see some unfinished projects get finished before we all harp for new stuff. Like, what ever happened to the Faith comic? Or the Virtual Cards? (Technically not a work in progress, but still a viable example.) I'm surprised no one's voted for more Solitare games. I like those, even if I could only vote once.

On the game note, after playing Sanguro Girl (and a couple others like it), I think that would be a great idea for a JB game. Maybe it could be set up so that who you could choose to go after and how would depend on whether or not you were playing the game as a male/female hero character or villian character? Or do people prefer to play as one of the babes? Also, in the SG demo, can you get with the girl, or are you just stuck playing games and kissy-face?

Finally, if you want to try "SuperHero League of Hoboken", go here. A great site with a ton of old games. Some games require programs to slow down your computer, which are also available here. Oh, and if anyone knows the dictionary keywords for the various Carmen Sandiego games there, I'd love to know them so I can actually continue the damn games.

Re: Finishing Games..

Yes- I do want to finish off the Fighting game real soon. At least with WB fighting Suzy.. and then we can decide from there if people want more or just leave the fighting game as is... After re-evaluating the fighting game- the moves and fighting frames will be a huge load on artwork so we're probably not going to expand on that game too much. While the idea of fighting and seeing the girls lose their clothes is cool and all- but this would mean- we'd have to render them all topless which doubles the frames for each moves...

Now- the Card game- i'm going to have to revisit and see how it can be simplified. It was too ambituous to try to code something with a huge database storage for every members card. And the thought of multiplayer has lots of issues. It would be an undertaking to really make the battle card game truely what we all want it to be. BUT this isn't to say- it can't be a toned down simple single player card game against the computer. Which can be expanded slowly overtime. I was hoping the poll would show the CardGame being the most popular.

Re: Sanguro Girl...
I actually managed to beat the game under 100 days. Their demo only has 1 girl. The key was to spend your points in Strength so you can make money doing the delivery. As the Str. seems to give you the greatest return in $$ accumulation. Also the girl in the demo prefers guys who are charming and strong. So with the money earned. Just go to the bar and drink until your charm level increases! The game was some what addictive but tediously annoying in asking the girl out. It was almost a guessing game figuring out which day of the week she wants to go out with you. Plus she was inconsistent in which days she'll go out. Argh.. But yes- you can win the game and have sex with her. Btw- Here's the password code if you want to jump to the end game (reward screen) tYU2TEb

Re: Carmen Sandiego (Where in the World or Where in the USA?)
Ha! There are tons of cheats/walkthroughs for the game..
http://www.911cheats.com/games/sect/div/cont/list_cheat/spray/y/id/0000013187/gid/
0000001755/_cheats/_walkthroughs/_codes/_pc/_n64/_psx/_gameboy/_playstation/
Also- more info can be found at www.gamefaqs.com Search for "Carmen Sandiego" They have tons of reviews and cheats/faqs and hints on CS.

Funny you mentioned Carmen Sandiego because I was doing some research on the game. Been thinking of cloning that game- but adult based. The idea will be visiting various Casinos around the world and playing Strip Poker with various chicks to track down the villians to their hideout casino. Each poker play you win at the strip casino will give you clues to the next casino. Follows the same formula as Carmen for the most part with a twist of Money Accumulation to help you on your quest for the villian. "Where the Fuck is Carmen Sandiego?" hehe.

Re: RPG fanfare on NewGrounds?
Well- I didn't really like their RPG fanfare too much. Tho the SG demo was reasonably well done in Flash- I was kinda surprised. The "Social Games" are very popular in Japan. The ones found on NewGround are shockwave recreations of these social games found on those Japanese hentai/anime CDROM games. In terms of RPG- I was thinking more of Final Fantasy like RPG- or similar to BardsTale- More old school RPG. You have a team of characters that you start off with. Some characters you build. Others you pick up along the way. Or something more like Golden Sun on the GameBoyAdvance. Solve quest. Unfold a story as you go along. Build up your character stats. Collect Items.

Now- I wouldn't mind taking a stab at the Social Games... It's not too hard to create a game like that.

btw- I voted for Nefertari.

I personally would like to see more stuff fleshed out on the older babes...

If I had to pick my second choice - my second vote would probably go to Kitty Katwoman.

PostPosted: Thu Feb 12, 2004 4:06 am    Post subject: Faith Reply with quote

Some of the things we started were to see how reaction to them would be. I had a lot of fun with the new Faith material, and I think the Flash work has some real potential to add a dash of animation to the comics. She got almost no reaction here though, as the story is a little more goth than the standard comics fare we usually have. Most users also didn't like that the Flash panels weren't as easy to save as the standard JPG versions of the regular comic. Everything here is reaction-driven, so it a bunch of people speak up and would like the see the spotlight shift over to Faith for a bit, we'll do it. I think the masses want the group version with the core characters, though.

The animated trading cards were just us playing around with some animation techniques, and weren't intended as an ongoing thing, although there may be more in the future.

The game development takes art time out of the comics, which would be fine if the majority of users wanted that. The comics seem to be the biggest demand, though, so that's usually the priority. The BOM has to come out each month, and we try to get some new casino dealers into the rotation now and then. We'd like to get to everything, but mostly focus on what's the biggest demand.

You can save the Flash panels? I'm not tech enough to have figured that out at all. Though, this isn't the only site I would like to know how to do that. Especially for SWF files. Though, I do think my comp's a little screwed up because I can play the SWF movies on the web sites they're on, but my saved ones stop loading after 1/3 finished. Bah, this isn't a place for me to complain about me. MORE FEMALE NUDITY!

If you use Firebird/Firefox from mozilla.org, you can probably save SWF files most easily from the Page Info panel.

- Right-click somewhere uninteresting on the page. A popup should appear.
- In the popup, select "View Page Info". The Page Info panel should appear.
- Select the Media tab.
- Scroll through the various things at the top, until you get to the SWF file.
- Click "Save As". Should be self-explanatory from there.

In other news: I never really went for Ganguro Girl-type games. There didn't seem to be the right combination of replayability and difficulty. I dunno. Thing is, when I think of all those games collectively, there was a fair bit there, between deciding which traits to raise, memorizing details for dates, and some of the mini-games (gambling and barfighting come to mind). Ronald: your Carmen Sandiego idea sounds neat. A fun little quest, that.

For some reason lately I've been thinking of something akin to the PBM game It's A Crime. The creative juices are flowing...

Its a crime sounds like PimpWar (tho pimpwar is not play by mail but also turned based on a daily basis) you accumulate turns to spend every 10 minutes i think.

Can be complicated to build any sort of player to player game.... Has to be played out carefully.

I agree with your player vs. player point. Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of IAC if you were the only gang in the city - building up your own crime syndicate until you're hefty enough to take on a superheroine. In fact, I couldn't sleep the other night, and ended up sketching out some details, if you'd like to see them. The challenge so far is that the first part of the game, the buildup, contains relatively little superpower stuff; it's only when you get big enough to start hiring mad scientists that the fun begins...

Okay, but since I don't use Mozilla but IE 6.0.2 with Windows2000 Pro instead, how would I do that? I know when I was using WinME that I could go under the Temp. Internet folder and find certain SWF files that way. Any advice?

I just fired up IE, and couldn't find a way to do it; sorry HSHP. One possibility - if you know what you're doing - might be to refresh that page, and then go into your browser cache and hunt down the most recent file that's over 100k bytes or so. Copy it somewhere else, rename it to use a SWF extension, and see if you can view it by itself in a browser.

Or you can just download Mozilla and be done with it. =)

Okay, I downloaded Mozilla (kind of surprised it's nothing much more than an upgraded Netscape) and followed the directions above. But every time I try to save, I go through everything and nothing gets saved when I'm done. WTF?

Which folder did you save it to? Did you get a "Saving..." dialog window for a second after you selected the file name?

Sorry about that Ronald.

To answer your question though, hollow, I would select the file, hit "Save As", change the file name to something other than the website it defaulted as, click save and nothing happens. I just tried it while typing. Went through everything, even got the file name under Documents (something I didn't get trying to save Flash stuff) but had no saved file. Quite odd.

I just logged in to the site.
Selected "Virtual Cards".
Clicked on the first one (She-Bulk).
Right clicked somewhere boring.
Selected "View Page Info".
Selected the Media tab.
Paged down to the very bottom item. It's the SWF file, noted as type "Embed".
Clicked "Save As...".
Noted the current folder and file name, and hit return.
The "Saving" dialog popped up for a split second (it's in the cache, so it's fast).
Went to the folder in an Explorer window. Found the file. It's 200519 bytes.
Dragged it into a new Mozilla window. There she is.

Does this much work for you?

Used the same folder, various names and the method described. No split second save window. No file to drag. Nada. I'll just blame my computer and be done with it.
